Day 5 Kamloops to Banff

Up early to be back on the train for the next leg and seat 24 feels like home and the hosts like old friends. They work so hard running up and down with snacks and drinks: today it was Baileys on the rocks at 10 am - how decadent! Very quickly we are in a much higher rainfall area with huge lakes, swiftly flowing streams and green everywhere.

Our group had second sitting for meals which are below in the restaurant: each carriage of 60 people has seating upstairs with the glass domed roof and goes downstairs for meals where our 2 chefs cook just for us, all very civilised and excellent quality. Far too much food and drinks flowing like - well - water. Our tour guides have a set because the train hosts do a great job with commentary.

Nearly into Banff and now the rivers are flowing in the opposite direction, eastwards. You can see how long the train is - we are about halfway.

12 hours after leaving Kamloops we are in Banff with several stops in sidings on the way to allow enormous freight trains to pass. It’s 9 pm and still light.
